Jan Tschichold Editorial
  • Editorial Design & Layout

This story followed the progression of Jan Tschichold’s career, as well as the development of his style.

The challenge here was to hone the aesthetic of the renowned 20th-century designer - to present his diverse body of work - all while remaining within the design plan of I.D.Magazine.

The opening of the article depicts an open book, on which two pages show early work and later work from the artist's career. The editorial is set in a strong visual grid - made up of carefully chosen images. The center of the story is broken by a double-spread timeline, highlighting key events in the life of Tschichold.

The idea worked, and attendance went up for the Spring season. Increased ticket sales offset the decrease in the budget.
